Hey, it’s nice to meet you.

About:

It’s me, Cassie (she/her)! I was raised near New Haven, Connecticut with two biologists (mom and dad), a chemist (my sister), and a few very good rescue dogs. I have a bachelor of arts in theater and religion from Barnard College, and a master of divinity in psychology and religion from Union Theological Seminary. Between undergrad and graduate school, I served for two years with Lutheran Volunteer Corps in the Twin Cities.

After my yearlong pastoral internship in Baltimore, I returned home to New England in late 2020, where I completed a DONA birth doula training and spent six months working as a counselor for adults and teens in eating disorder treatment. I was ordained in 2022 as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the ELCA and now serve as the associate pastor at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Westborough, MA.

Exploring vocation is a lifelong project, and I’ve worked on it as a playwright, poet, and blogger, a nanny and preschool teacher, a resident advisor, camp counselor and service trip director, a chaplain, youth minister and after-school program director, and now as a parish pastor. I am a queer femme lesbian and a chaotic bisexual. I’m learning how to thrive with mental health diagnoses of ADHD combined type and depression.

I am currently based outside of Worcester, MA, where I spend my free time taking yoga and dance classes, reading gay young adult or romance novels, watching too much TV, and scoping out local museums, coffee shops, or bookstores. I love coming home at the end of the day to my generous and goofy girlfriend, and two adorable cats that are made entirely out of chaos: Ramona and Beezus.

Projects:

  • Guest speaking and preaching, especially on youth ministry, building LGBTQ+ affirming communities, body-positive theology, and reproductive justice.

  • Birth doula services, such as birth plan building, labor support, and postpartum support referrals. Special focus on queer/trans families and birth as a sacred/spiritual experience.

  • Weddings, funerals, and baptisms/naming rituals!

  • Full-length plays:

    • A Nativity Play (2013)

    • Red Ribbon (2014)

    • Heart/Stone (2019)

  • Christmas pageant resources: A Christmas Play (2022)

  • Work in progress: text for a children’s fairy tale picture book.

  • Work in progress: a book about pastoral care for those with eating disorders, focusing on the theology of intuitive eating, health at every size, and mental health/addiction recovery.

  • Work in progress: a young adult novel that takes place at gay Jesus camp!

  • Work in progress: a queer adult romance novel about a pastor— the big romantic gesture happens at the Christmas pageant :)
